Security Hasp & Staple
A hinged hasp and staple for adding a padlock point to sheds, gates, toolboxes, and cupboards. Simple, robust installation.
A hinged hasp and staple provides a versatile and practical security solution for a wide range of applications. Its simple, robust design consists of two primary components: a hinged plate (the hasp) and a looped staple, which are secured to adjoining surfaces. When closed, the staple fits through the hasp, allowing it to be secured with a padlock, combination lock, or lockable catch. This creates a physical barrier that deters unauthorised access.
Common Features & Considerations
Hinged hasps and staples are typically constructed from durable materials such as steel, iron, or brass to resist cutting, prying, and corrosion. Common finishes include galvanised, zinc-plated, or powder-coated options for added weather resistance and longevity. The design often features a simple hinge that allows the hasp to fold down when not in use, keeping the profile neat.
Installation & Usage
Installation is straightforward, typically requiring screws or bolts to affix the hasp to one surface (e.g., a door) and the staple to the adjoining frame or lid. It is crucial to ensure both components are aligned correctly so the staple sits cleanly within the hasp's opening. This mechanism is commonly used where a surface does not close flush against its frame, as the hasp can bridge a small gap.
Ideal Applications
This type of hardware is suitable for securing sheds, garden gates, toolboxes, chests, cupboards, lockers, and industrial containers. It is a fundamental component for adding a physical lock to items that lack an integrated locking mechanism.
