Texas Instruments MAX232N RS-232 transceiver, 5V single supply, 16-pin PDIP. Converts RS-232 and TTL/CMOS logic levels for serial communication.
Texas Instruments MAX232N RS-232 Transceiver 5V is a dual driver and receiver integrated circuit for TIA/EIA-232-F (RS-232) serial communication from a single 5V power supply, supplied in a 16-pin PDIP package.
Overview
The MAX232N includes an internal capacitive voltage generator, removing the need for external high-voltage power supplies. Each of its two receivers converts RS-232 signal inputs into standard 5V TTL/CMOS logic levels, with a typical threshold of 1.3V and 0.5V of hysteresis for improved noise immunity. The receivers can accept inputs of up to ±30V. The two drivers convert TTL/CMOS logic signals back into compliant RS-232 output levels, making the device suitable for connecting legacy serial equipment and modernising serial interfaces.
Key Features
Applications
The transceiver bridges modern logic circuits and classic serial interfaces. Common uses include legacy computer systems and other legacy serial equipment, with the device designed to meet or exceed the TIA/EIA-232-F and ITU V.28 standards.
