SB Components PiRelay V2 Relay Shield for Raspberry Pi

The SB Components PiRelay V2 Relay Shield is a Raspberry Pi expansion board featuring four independent relays, each rated to switch loads up to 250 V AC at 7 A or 30 V DC at 10 A. It enables the Raspberry Pi to control high-power devices directly from microcontroller projects.

Overview

The board provides an interface between the low-voltage GPIO pins of the Raspberry Pi and mains-powered appliances. Each channel includes an optocoupler, which uses light energy to transmit electrical signals and provides electrical isolation between the Raspberry Pi and the high-voltage load. This isolation helps to protect the Raspberry Pi from voltage spikes and interference.

Design and Connectivity

The board follows a standardised shield form factor and sits directly on top of the 40-pin GPIO header of the Raspberry Pi. It includes a stacking header, so the GPIO pins remain accessible for other projects while the relay shield is in use. Each of the four relays has an LED status indicator that gives visual confirmation of its on or off state.
