Hinged Hasp & Staple
A standard hinged hasp and staple for securing doors, lids, and panels. Compatible with padlocks for added security.
A hinged hasp and staple is a fundamental component for securing a variety of doors, lids, and panels. This traditional hardware piece provides a robust and straightforward method of closure and locking. It typically consists of a hinged plate (the hasp) that is fixed to the main surface, which then folds over a fixed staple or loop mounted on the adjacent frame or door. Once closed, a padlock can be passed through the staple to secure the assembly. The design offers flexibility in application and installation, making it suitable for both utilitarian and more finished projects where simple, effective security is needed.
Constructed to withstand regular use, these fittings are often made from durable materials such as steel or coated metals, offering resistance to corrosion and physical force. The hinged action allows for easy operation, while the solid construction of the staple resists cutting or prying attempts. Available in various sizes and finishes, they can be matched to the specific dimensions and aesthetic of the installation, from garden sheds and workshop cabinets to antique chests and interior cupboards.
Installation and Compatibility
Installation is generally straightforward, requiring basic tools to securely fix the hasp and staple with screws or bolts to the chosen surfaces. It is important to ensure the two components align correctly when the door or lid is closed to allow the hasp to seat fully into the staple. This hardware is compatible with a wide range of standard padlocks, allowing users to select a lock that meets their specific security requirements.
